Yes, but I've looked at your comments in the past, you really seem to really have a problem with Pearls, you're always questioning instead of enjoying. So then why do you read it?? If you really think Garfield is funnier than Pearls is, then there's something wrong with you.
If you read my comment, you'll see I didn't question that this strip is groundbreaking. I questioned whether bleeping swear words was. Read it again.
As for your question regarding 1953, I submit the following from Wikipedia: "Stephan Pastis has said that the "unwritten" censorship code is still "stuck somewhere in the 1950s." Generally, comics are not allowed to include such words as "damn", "sucks", "screwed", and "hell", although there have been a few exceptions."
Man...I really love being right.
Pomposus......it all goes back to a lawsuit filed several years ago by an older woman who ordered a coffee at McDonald's driveup window and the lid was not snug on the top of the cup. She drove away with the coffee cup between her legs (insert mental image here) and the coffee spilled on her thighs and she sued the company (gotta love the USA) for the burns and negligence and whatever else came to mind and she won a bunch of money and now all restaurants are required to print the warning label on their cups.
Would love to see Rat's version, though why anyone would buy coffee at Mickey D's is a mystery to me.
Rock on Pastis!!!!!!
I love the fact that Mr. Pastis puts swearing in his strips, its one of the reasons this strip is so groundbreaking. In order to be groundbreaking, you have to break the rules sometimes.
Haha - right on.
Although, I'm not sure I approve of swearing in a comic strip. Everybody's favorite orange cat is always funny, but never needs to swear.
