TrapperJohn, I realise that the US has tabloids that are obnoxious but nothing beats British tabloids for the sheer insanity of their obnoxiousness. You see, as far as I can tell, having lived in the US for a time, there are papers there that print salacious gossip. There are papers that have, shall we say, rather puritanical views. The thing is that in the US, these are separate creatures. In Britain, they manage to combine them. A paper like The Sun, for instance, on its front page will scream about sex fiend killers on and how over-s.e.x.u.a.l.i.s.e.d British life has become and how paedophiles and rapists are everywhere. On page two, among the stories calling for the government of the day 'to do something' about some perceived crime, there will be some 's.e.x.y' story about someone, maybe a celebrity, who has had some wild s.e.x.u.a.l adventure, all written up in a wink-wink, nudge-nudge style. On page three there will be a picture of a young woman - barely of age - showing her b.r.e.a.s.t.s. The British tabloids have all the morals of a puritan alley cat. The sad thing is that the British government - and the opposition - is afraid of these papers and plays to them for fear of losing power.
