Oh dear..."my" mockingbirds may drive me crazy, keep me up sometimes, and build heartbreakingly doomed nests in scrawny pyracantha branches that can't hold their weight, so I have to sigh over broken eggs every spring. But I'm fond of the little pests! Moondog probably would understand.
susansunshine - Isn't it amazing how many different sounds they can make?? ....and how each successive sound becomes more annoying when you are trying to sleep?? No wonder Harper Lee came up with the title To Kill a Mockingbird!
I have mockingbirds under my bedroom window who, unlike their movie counterparts, spend the whole night cawing, croaking, and trying to imitate crickets, only louder.
I agree with Pilsner. Around here, in June, the day breaks at just after 3am and the tree outside our bedroom window is full of birds "marking their territory!" Go away already!
Maybe Sisyphos, but are you sure you're not mistaking an ordinary, territorial songbird for the Bluebird of Happiness? I know I've done that too many times myself. Pilsner's just keeping it real.
