ooposa -- cloudnine -- I DID refer to it as artwork -- but I guess I meant in the sense that HE thought it was.... and I go to "art" ahows of other stuff I don't think of as art eithee, but I let them have the term cos it's not my place to change it..... Criticise, yes...but to decide "what is art" for anyone but myself smacks of cencorship and bumbling government interference as happened with gthe NEA.

I know my post was too long to read, sorry -- but I did say I had no idea what went on in the comments for 9CL, so believe me, there's no way I was defending them. Actually, funny timing that it is, because people seem to love it, I had just used the checklist to add 9CL to my page here, to check it out -- and minutes later, I read here on Luann about its board being disabled. What is another word for Adam;s stuff? I didn't call it "art" but to me "work" is a generic term that can be applied to anything from making a mess of a coloring-book page all the way up to Rembrandt'd "work".
susansunshine, I agree except for a couple things. There were a few on the 9CL board who expressed dislike, directly to him, for what was being done to the strips. And I won't refer what AH did as work or artwork.

WHOA! I think I woke up behind the looking glass!.... I REALLY apologise in advance for the length of this post, but please give me a chance!.............. Suddenly, even though I've expressed several times my aversion to overt sexual remarks and foul language on this board, (and I'm so adamant about it I even put in my own symbols!) I'm supposed to be the defender of AdamHosk, whose work I've barely seen and never spoken of.................That appparently got even my silliest posts all thumbed down in the wee hours, even the word "hello" to Varnes (and hello again Varnes) and now everybody with whom I usually agree is up on a high horse about copyright violation, when I never heard ONE PERSON mention it to Adam when a lot of people here were encouraging his efforts.............. I've only ever seen ONE, the first he did of Luann, and I found it rather puerile, so I never went back, but I always figure to each his own. I've no idea how raunchy they got, or didn't - and I've never seen the ones for 9CL. If he left Brooke M's sig on, yes, that's wrong. But the web is full of bad parodies, and I rather hate the idea of internet censorship, though an artist's right to retaliate and protect his work is not in question to me............. What I meant was silly was the shutting down of a whole comments board if it was truly about some teenager's silly hormonal artwork, rather than giving him fair warning and then kicking him out. I didn't know there were obscene comments on 9CL cos I've never been on that board. But I've never even heard anyone but me asking people to tone it down on this one!
Radical Knight, freedom of speech means that the GOVERNMENT doesn't have the right to censor or imprison you for anything you say, publish, etc. And there are limits to it: as you say, you can't use it to blackmail, incite to riot, and now "hate speech" has been added to that. But there is no freedom from criticism or rudeness - you're allowed to be as stupid as you want to be and as mean as you want to be - and people have the right to ignore you and ridicule you if they feel you warrent ridicule. And in a private forum like this you CAN be censored and your posts removed. You can print or say anything about another person, but they can sue your arse off if it isn't true and can collect damages if your words can be proved to have harmed them. Your speech is only "free" from government interference.
One of the advantages - there are not many - of logging on after a 2 week hiatus (not that anyone missed me, I'll bet) is that I can see things in perspective, as it were. For instance, Luann and gang seem to be much more primitively drawn in the last few days' strips. I seem to like this storyline, though, and the fact that the last BraToni thing went kersplatch on its face in one week.
"Freedom of Speech and/or Expression" does not extend to a presumed right to vandalize, destroy, rudely slander, verbally abuse, accost, or threaten anyone or anything. Neither is it within those same rights to forcibly subject views and opinions upon others with non-similar views and opinions. **** If Freedom of Speech meant anyone could say whatever they wanted about anything or anyone, then why are there so many Libel and Slander lawsuits not to mention copyright infringements which can monetarily ruin an offender. #### Play nice kids, I like Luann and would like the comments to remain. I didn't post regularly at 9CWL but would like the opportunity to do so. %%%% I liked the post about the IP or URL address of an offender being added to a site SpamBlocker or Firewall. Not only is THAT account blocked but everybody from that location. The offensive party cannot just create another user account.
HPD, dammit, bite yer tongue. The last thing this board needs is a migrating troll infestation! I think it was cfortunato who suggested it was moving here - is there that much cross-pollination in the poster population here? (That post by Adam's buddy was removed, btw.)
