Maklarrian, I think he is convinced that it is the perfect thing for Rob's shoe, that nothing else could be grosser. why waste it on Satchel, there are plenty of things he'll eat!.
Typical Satchel. I have never met a dog that will "sample" any item put before them. Ever seen a cell phone regurgitated by a dog? I don't recommend it. It's pretty gross. Regardless, this cartoon shows us that beneath Bucky's furry exterior and grimy interior is a small sliver of a heart. He really doesn't want Satchel to eat this thing. Is it because he can't find something that gross again, or does he legitimately care for Satchel?
Speaking of someone who has spent about $1,100 on his weimaraner's stomach surgery (care of eating part of my hoodie and a computer cleaning rag) - I found this intensely amusing.
@orinocowomble I've lived with dogs growing up. They're incredibly loyal and protective and they're great listeners when you need to talk, but they do dumb things sometimes...like putting just about anything they can in their mouths.
"Bright enough to talk, but otherwise a dog." Really? Written, I dare say, by someone who's never lived in close contact with a dog.
And all the dogs who work daily as guide dogs, therapy dogs, hearing dogs for the deaf, drug and bomb detection dogs, rescue dogs at disaster scenes, aid dogs for para- and quadraplegics...dogs that have to learn thousands of tasks and sometimes make decisions on the best way to help or tackle a job...they can't talk, but each and every one is waaaay smarter than Bucky.
How many guide cats for the blind have you ever seen?
/soapbox off/
Someone said the other day that Satch was smarter than he lets on. Frankly, I don't think so. I think he's a dog...bright enough to talk, but otherwise a dog (think of "Dug" in the film "Up"). Also, somewhere inside, there's a part of Bucky that tries to take care of Satch. Bucky really tried to get Satch not to eat the disgusting thing he was going to put in Rob's shoe.
