The "hell" quote was the "Catch-22" clue for me; I think Jef both wanted to get the line in and also maximize the probability that the strip would be published. --- (Okay, to expand on that, first I had the thought, "That great Tom Lehrer lyric was taken from a book?!", and then I searched for it, since I couldn't remember what book or movie Major Major was from.)
Not to knock Caulfield's literary intentions, but all the hip kids will be dressed as monsters from "Where The Wild Things Are" I'll bet.

(I've also decided I'm NOT giving candy to any kids who come knocking dressed as Michael Jackson)
Kudos to all who guessed "Catch-22" yesterday. I should have known "War And Peace" is too heavy* for Caulfield.

(*I mean physically too heavy: That book's HUGE!)
Interesting twist (and why blot out Jane's 'hell' quote- everyone can see what she was about to say)! I was hoping for Tolstoy myself but it should be interesting to see how Caulfield pulls this off. Will he be in fatigues?
This is why I love this comic, I'm an English major major major major and the guessing of what Caulfield is going to be is one of the highlights of my year ^.^
