A combination of pschearer and cobass is what I was hoping for. I have lived in LA and Phoenix, and both of them had beeper kings... I thought every town did. If I had known there were all these towns without a king, I would have claimed the throne for myself.

KING ME!!! Is this the second in an unofficial royal week, your highness's?

Thanks, highpower. I had no idea about the joke, either. Googling your link explained it. I was also fascinated with the story of the 14 YO rape victim and the things that happened with Arpaio's sheriffs' dept. He doesn't appear to be the stalwart defender of the law his publicity would have us believe. SORRY for getting off track, but anyone interested in justice Arpaio-style should try this link.

For some reason, the poem "Ozymandias" by Percy Bysshe Shelley comes to mind... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ozymandias

I never knew people from Phoenix were referred to as "Phoenicians" until I read that article. Now that's funny.

OK. I in Phoenix since 1998 and I never heard of this before following the link! But then I don't watch much of the networks...

I didn't get it either. Thanks for the plausible explanation pschearer. The only thing worse than having a Dodge dealership today would be to have had a dot-com business back in the 90's (when beepers were popular).

I believe the joke simply is that beepers have been totally obsoleted, first by cell phones and now by even more advance technologies. Could be worse; he could have a Dodge dealership.

An inside joke. As I don't live in Arizona, I didn't get it. If it has to be explained, it isn't funny. http://www.phoenixnewtimes.com/1996-05-30/news/paging-bull/
