Nothing like being rewarded for stinking up the field, but just showing up. Why try and better yourself for? Just settle for some cheap trinket and pretend you deserve it. Instant gratification is much better than well earned long term gratification.
When I was in first grade I played on a T-ball team and we didn't place or anything, but I hit hard and ran hard and I always did my best and I got one of those self-esteem trophies, and I was proud of it for a long long time. I think I still might have it somewhere.
Then, a few years later I was on a first place baseball team where they stuck me in the outfield for one inning a game and let bat once or twice a game and I spent the rest of the time on the bench. I don't think a month had passed when I threw away the first place trophy.
So yeah, sometimes those everybody-gets-a-trophy trophies are garbage, but sometimes they can be better than the real ones
