Agreed on all points. Thank you for the link. The comic is of poor taste. Johnny Hart would never make such a strip. The reaction of readers is even MORE irrational. C'mon folks - use that righteous indignation and punish the people that deserve it, like corrupt: officials, CEO's, politicians, geneticists and those who would turn our world into a polluted wasteland.
Found it. Apparently comics.com changed it because of the theme, but you can find it here: http://www.chron.com/apps/comics/showComic.mpl?date=2009/7/21&name=BC And while I, for one, am against cruelty to animals, what I find even MORE disturbing is that people are more ready to form a lynch mob against someone who is cruel to dogs than against, oh, say, a psychotic murderer. :P
Did they change the strip on us? What _I_ see is one of Johnny's definition, in this case for the word "bummer". The definition is "A broken down SUV." There is no dog anywhere in the strip. Are you sure you were looking at BC? I don't think I've ever SEEN a dog in BC.
Fortunately our cartoon character seems as shocked as we all are to see Spot being doused with kerosene. Certainly not what I have come to expect in BC.
