I think I'm getting grill envy. Then again, I do still have my Weber kettle that I've had for over 15 years. The wooden handles (yes, it's that old) are falling off, but it still gets used. Not today though. I didn't want to stand out in a thunderstorm to cook my spare ribs. Yes Hedgewitch, liquid smoke is great stuff. The ribs and baked beans were great. I used a pound of dried beans so we're going to be eating baked beans for quite a while since there are just the 2 of us now. I do have a couple pictures of my brother manning the grill with snow on the ground. I guess I wimped out today.
Folks! It's barbecue. On a grill! Play "Ode to Joy" and be joyful. Or the theme to 2001. Either one is cool. But the trick is to enjoy the 'cue. Plenty of it with sauce slathered on. Burgers cooked just right with enough juice to squirt you when you bite it. And brats! Friends, cue the theme again! happy 4th of July to all.
Lifestudent - Liquid smoke! That is a great invention. We use it every year to make venison jerkey. Even in our little rural town, we have a few people who insist on having a 4WD even though they would never consider getting it dirty. My hubby went bird hunting one year with a guy who had a 4WD and his friend refused to take it across a stream because "it might get dirty". Now thats a city slicker! I get called a redneck sometimes by my friends in California (no offense Mojito!) because we live on gravel road where our nearest neighbor is a few miles away. I gotta laugh.
Razor, I was confused about the grill design, too. It looks kind of like a propane grill (say, it ain't so, Jimmy!), but without the propane tank and with what appears to be a smokestack on top. Near as I can figure out it's a combination charcoal grill / smoker, similar to this: http://www.ibuybarbecues.com/product/BRK0033?meta=FRG&utm_source=GBASE&utm_medium=CPC&utm_content=&utm_campaign=
I can see why Arlo is stoked! Have a safe and happy, all!
Is Arlo cuing in the 1812 Overture? It sure sounds like it. Very appropriate for firing up the grill, especially if he still uses starter fluid. Stand back y'all, this is gonna make some fireworks!
Hedgewitch, redneck has a different connotation around here unless you're talking to them city dwellers here who don't know the difference between 4wd and 2wd and think all SUVs were meant for is driving on paved roads. Sure we love our banjo music, but we don't marry our sisters. Shades of Deliverance! :) Just having a little fun with you.
I can't use my grill today. It's pouring outside, so the spare ribs are in the oven with some liquid smoke to make them at least taste and smell like I cooked them outside.
Have a happy Fourth of July. And Hedgewitch, I hope you're not one of those heading for the emergency room.
Opps, left something off my last post. I have a date with my BBQ as well today. Marinating some chicken and ribs, yummy. And whatever my uncles bagged last year during hunting season (could be big game, could be squirrel, you never know). Getting daughter ready so she can get her year supply of candy at the parade. Later in the day have my martini and cosmopolition (the drink not the magazine). see hubby watching the NASCAR race later at Daytona with my uncles and then watch him throw firecrackers into the bonfire in the back yard. Later listen to hubby rant about how NASCAR is ran by a redneck Mafia. Then top it off with fireworks by the fairgrounds. Woohoo! Beautiful day in western ND. Now I need a nap.
