Well I used a little caramel syrup and some chopped pecans, and it did turn out good. We had to sample it before going to bed. As for the rhubarb, I never had rhubarb strawberry pie. Mom used to make a rhubarb custard pie that was to die for! The smoothness of the custard and tartness of the rhubarb went perfectly together. One of these days I'm going to have to either start growing rhubarb or buy some and make a rhubarb custard pie just to remind my taste buds what they're missing.
HedgeWitch, no chocolate or caramel in pie? We're not talking crust toppings like in fruit pie, that'd be gross. You haven't lived until you've had creamy chocolate peanut butter pie or caramel cream pie with whippd cream and chocolate shavings on top. Damn, now I'm hungry again. Think dense creamy mousse filling and a graham cracker crust like in cheesecake. No bacon EVER.
Coconut icecream sounds wonderful! I don't think I have seen it before.
Lifestudent - I'm a firm believer caramel makes just about anything taste better. My husband is the salt fan, I'm the sweets fan. Someone was mentioning pie. Probably my alltime favorite food EVER! I can only think of a few that I cannot eat - rhubarb, mincemeat (hate, hate raisins) and chocolate silk. I love chocolate but not in pie, it doesn't seem right.
lifestudent, I'd be there except for that cheese. No thanks. I love coconut ice cream with anything, especially chocolate. Chips, syrup, I don't care, bring it on. Corn is sweet, especially when it's BBQ'd, but I'd like it way better with salt than dumped in with ice cream, I'd think any flavor would just get lost. I guess the saying is that bacon makes everything better, but there really are places you can't or shouldn't go with it.
No I didn't see it. That does sound pretty gross. While I was in the Philippines I had ice cream with corn and with pieces of cheese. They seemed to diminish the cooling effect I was eating ice cream for. I loved them macapuno (young coconut) ice cream though. I'd been wondering what flavors to add to my ice cream when I make it tonight. Caramel sounds good. I love chocolate, but my wife isn't as much of a chocoholic as I am. I don't have the chocolate chips, but do have some caramel syrup.
lifestudent, ATE is the word. Strawberry rhubarb and lemon meringue, two of the finest pies ever invented. I also get This Is True and Randy Cassingham would bust a gut here laughing! Not to go OT here but did you see Top Chef a few season ago? They had an ice cream challenge and the losers came up with avocado and bacon and chocolate-lavender! The little kids (and the adults) at the beach were spitting it out and wiping their tongues. So whenever I have homemade caramel chocolate chip I think of those "flavors" and have to laugh.
There are 2 kinds of bbq, good bbq and great bbq. You're supposed to lick the sauce off your fingers before typing though, aren't you ctsheehy? :) Btw, do you get his This Is True newsletter too?
Ambidexter, that bbq sounds mighty fine. I've got the mixture for homemade ice cream chilling right now so I can load the ice cream maker in a bit. What kind of pie are you eating with it?
